Tegular (reveal-edge) tiles

A recessed, upscale edge detail. What to look for in tegular (reveal-edge) tiles, where they work best, and current prices from home-improvement stores.

Best forLiving spaces where you want a more finished ceiling
EdgeStepped edge drops below the grid
LookMore dimensional than square lay-in
CuttingBorder tiles need a re-cut reveal
Sizes2x2 (most common), 2x4

Tegular tiles have a stepped edge so the tile face sits slightly below the grid. The shadow line makes a drop ceiling look more custom and less “office”.

Installing tegular tiles

  • Border tiles need the step re-cut along the cut edge so they sit at the right height: use a sharp utility knife or a tegular cutting tool.
  • Check the tile is made for your grid width (15/16" or 9/16").

Frequently asked questions

Are tegular tiles harder to install?

Full tiles drop in like any other. Border tiles take extra time because you re-cut the edge.
